Taking a new journey down the road of health and fitness can seem daunting. Sometimes it can all seem like too much effort. To make things a little easier, let's look at this tried and tested idea.
Take just one step at a time.
This is useful for much more than fitness and health goals. Any tricky job can be more easily managed by breaking it down into smaller chunks. If you’re facing something challenging, and are feeling stressed about it, try directing your focus to just that very first step. What's the very first step you need to take to get on your way?
Then, and only then, should you look to the second.
I often go hiking, which allows me to put these words into a practise. When I see the mountain looming ahead, I often think ‘Christ on a bike, this is going to be hard!`
But then I take a deep breath, remember my own advice, and I begin. I begin with the first step.
